Brunswick County sheriff, affiliates, subpoenaed

BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) -- Brunswick County Sheriff Ronald Hewett has been ordered to testify before a federal grand jury in Raleigh this month.

Hewett says subpoenas also have been issued by the US Attorney's Office for members of the sheriff's office and people who worked on Hewett's re-election campaign.

Hewett says he doesn't know the focus of the investigation and hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing.

County Attorney Huey Marshall says he also received a request from the US Attorney's Office for timecards, finance records and employment records pertaining to the sheriff's office that cover "a period of years."

U-S Attorney's spokeswoman Robin Cier says she can't confirm or deny an investigation.

living on another planet if you honestly think Obama is going to take a 'personal' interest in Brunswick County and it's corrupt government. I agree there are issues throughout, not just in the law enforcement areas but also the school system as well. However, to think that just because Obama is black and you believe the county to be full of racists/bigots that he is going to come down here from his high horse and 'clean up' the place you must be dreaming or high. Judging from one poster's comments it proves the point that MOST (I'm not saying all) of the black community in America voted for him for one reason and one reason only - because he is black and ya'll thought he was going to bring change. Change is coming, but I don't think it is going to be the kind anyone is going to be happy about!

Well i am from the north and have lived in brunswick county. In fact i had a very close relationship with the (law. I would like to say i was raised to respect my elders and not be a racist or a bigot. I saw more racism out of the law enforcement in that county than i see on the news. especially holden beach. i was persecuted for being a (YANKEE). i was talked down to and treated like a 2nd rate citizen. Not all were this bad but most. Just because some one is from the north doesnt mean we are any different. Things are so CORRUPT in that county i would drive around rather than drive threw and get harassed because of my accent. the police protect each other. I personally witnessed several occasions and was part of some of this. I hope President Obama takes a personal interest in Brunswick county and its Sheriff.

listen i lived in brunswick county for about 4 years and that has to be the MOST corrupt county ive ever seen. its all power and friends. ronald hewitt frank dilworth (HB PD) are egomanic lying stealing bigots. they frame innocent people and deserve to sit with the inmates in brunswick county jail. However they will never get what they deserve do to the Countys protection. I voted for obama and i hope he cleans that racist bigot filthy and corrupt county up personaly former resident of HB

Alrighty so you people must brake the law. These "ego maniac" people are only doing their jobs. I guess you made them mad because that's the only reason they would be that way to you. I have known both of them my whole life and I also hear a lot of gossip. But what you are accusing them of is a lie. Mr. Mike Jones you should know the truth about these "innocent" people before you accuse cops of framing people. I don't know what you watch on TV but that's not what goes on around here.

my family and i have lived in brunswick county all my life and we love it here until the last 4 years.myyounger sis is going through a really bad coustody battle and because the other family is very well know here she is getting no help.she is not a drug user she works and goes to school but she also does not make alot of money to cont. to funds for brunswick county unlike the other side whom is in the church and right beside the law offices they all know them by name.she reactly paid a lawyer 2.500.00 only to have him quitint the middle of the case due to the other side .now she has a court date for march and no attorney.there is no such thing a legal help for that and no attorney is gonna touch the case due to the other sides name.on the last court date the jude stated (i know to much about the story and the people to render a fair judgement.what does that mean ?im way to good of friendsto them to do the case.mmm i thnk the hole system should be looked at. where are the rights for the mothers who are not drug users or such and want to be there for there kids? the father has 4 kids by 4 different ladies and doesnt pay child support on any.this can not be right.just because they knnow everybody they get away with anything .i guess it's all who you know and pay. praying for all and wishing the best
