Brunswick County thrift store is helping local schools

Who would think buying thrift would be helping Brunswick County schools? The Communities in Schools Thrift Store is open for business. CIS is a national organization that aids public schools in dropout prevention. Proceeds from sales will go toward funding after school and tutoring programs, as well as scholarships for graduates in Brunswick County. "Communities in Schools partners with public schools. When we sell things that we get donated every dime goes back to the children and that just makes it all worthwhile," said CIS store manager Sherry Ollis. The store is in need of donations and shoppers, if you would like to help call 910-457-3494.

CIS Thrift Shop Location

The CIS Thrift Shop is located in Southport on highway 211 between Wal Mart and Zeetlegoo’s Pet Shop. Donations are accepted at the shop during between 10:30 and 4:00. Volunteers are needed to help sort the donations and work in the shop. To get involved, contact Sherry Ollis at 457-3494

Good idea

This sounds great and I hope it works out, but one question? Can something be opened toward our end of the county (Shallotte/Ocean Isle Beach area)? With gas prices like they are and other things, I would not drive that far to a thrift shop. I am sure you would get a great turnout with something down this way.

Thrift Shop locations

The second thrift shop is located behind Food Lion Shopping Center in the Village at Sunset Beach.
