Brush blaze in Monkey Junction

A brush fire in Monkey Junction made for smokey conditions today. Fire fighters said the blaze broke out around ten thirty this morning. It spanned about three acres behind the post office on the 56-hundred block of Carolina Beach road. Firefighters say it could have caused more damage under the right weather conditions. "If the wind was still blowing and was a factor, it'd be a lot bigger and a more serious problem than it is today," said Bill Walker the North Carolina Forest Service Ranger for New Hanover County. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.
