Budget cuts even hit NC lawmakers at cafeteria

READ MORE:
RALEIGH -- The budget cutting is getting serious in North Carolina as the recession continues. Lawmakers have been forced to cut funding for education and health programs. The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Friday the cuts will likely hit lawmakers when they head to lunch. The budget the House will debate next week includes a 10 percent increase in prices at the cafeteria in the basement of the legislative building. The cafeteria includes made-from-scratch items and banana pudding is a favorite. The main dining area includes lobbyists, staffers, journalists and state employees from nearby buildings looking a good meal at a good price. The restaurant prices cover the cost of the food, about $925,000 last year. State money pays for the rest, which includes the payroll. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
