PENDER COUNTY -- It was a packed day in one Pender County town. Fans of one fruit made the drive to Burgaw Saturday for the blues. The blueberry, that is. Cars lined the streets as people flooded in for the fourth annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival. People came for more than blueberries. Blueberry Festival attendee Amy Summers said, "My mom has a bakery in Eloy and it's so good you ought to try it, there's poppy seed bread, blueberry bread of course." The live entertainment, dancing, good eats, the arts and crafts -- all a part of the main course with blueberries on top. Blueberry lover Jennifer McDuffie said, "I bought a whole flat. I just love blueberries." Blueberries were printed on signs and t-shirts, even painted right on the ground. But the best blueberries are the ones you eat: blueberry ice cream and blueberry shakes. Lee Plowden loves blueberries. He said, "This is a blueberry slushy and it has a blueberries in it. And you get a little slushy with the blueberry and it's excellent." A blueberry day in the sun is a chance to say hello to friends and grab some food. If you didn't catch the blueberry fever, there's always next year.
