Burr to work for McCain in New Hampshire

RALEIGH (AP) -- North Carolina Senator Richard Burr is doing what he can to help John McCain win the New Hampshire Republican primary, including going there himself. Burr's office said he was en route Monday to New Hampshire to campaign for his fellow Senate colleague in Tuesday's primary. Burr is scheduled to attend a rally Monday night. Burr endorsed McCain for president months ago. Last week, the Winston-Salem Republican traveled to Iowa to speak to people at caucuses and made phone calls asking voters to support McCain. McCain finished fourth in Iowa, but he is in a tight race with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to place first in New Hampshire. Burr said he hopes his firsthand knowledge of the candidates makes his endorsement valuable for McCain. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
