Business booming for many this Memorial Day weekend

With a struggling economy, everyone is looking for ways to take a vacation without breaking the bank. “I try to eat out not as many times, cooking in, on holidays have a barbeque or something like that,” said Kevin Bessette. With plenty of free activities, Carolina Beach was a popular destination for the Memorial Day weekend. “Swimming in the ocean, that's fun, and playing in the sand,” said Chloe Bessette. Despite the fact that people are trying to save money this Memorial Day weekend, business owners in Carolina Beach say the new rides have helped them find a way to dig into their wallets. “We think that our rides have probably had a big impact because it's been the very busiest it can be,” said Beth Caggiano of King’s Beachwear. Many vacationers are trying to save money by cutting travel expenses this year, but for the beach businesses some budgeting has been a blessing in disguise. A trend they hope continues throughout the season.

You can get an unlimited ride bracelet for $20. Price, while not cheap, is not much higher than other beach town rides. I was there Friday night and all the rides had a line.
They may have brought people down to the beach, but if you were actually down there, you would see the rides themselves were NOT busy. The price is ridiculous!!! $1.50 per ticket and each ride takes 2, 3, or 4 tickets. For example, the Super Slide there takes 2 tickets. That is $3.00 dollars for ONE slide down the slide and while watching the only two people I saw slide, they were sticking all the way down. The Hang Ten ride looks fun, but is 4 tickets...or $6.00 for ONE ride. They sell packs of tickets for a small discount, but the cost per ride is not worth it. It is very nice to see rides on the boardwalk again, and think it is the start of something wonderful, but they need to alter the prices or there will be a lot of half empty rides all summer. At very least, sell a season pass, where people can ride all they want. I mean, the county fair has twice the rides and costs under $20.00 per person and you can ride all you want. Please, CB Town Council...speak with the owners and work out summer passes or something.
Yeah, I'm just going to go buy a season pass at Freestyle Music Park instead.
