Calabash Fire Department is looking to expand

The Calabash Fire Department is looking to expand. The volunteer squad is searching for more help to meet the needs of the growing area.

Mayor Anthony Clemmons says he's pleased with the way the department is now, but would like a more permanent solution for the town.

Options include becoming municipal departments within Calabash, Carolina Shores, or becoming part of the county.

"The town of Calabash, along with Carolina Shores and the county are working together to ensure that in reference to the rapid growth of our area, that we continue to meet the needs of our fire district," said Clemmons.

The change will also offer permanent fire fighter positions with more financial stability.
