In Wilmington, there's a rugby tradition.... The Cape Fear Rugby Squad is one the most respected clubs in the nation. This weekend the club will host the 34th annual Cape Fear Rugby 7s tournament. That means 7 players on a squad instead of the full amount of 15.... This tournament is the largest weekend 7s tournament in the country with teams coming into Wilmington from as far away as Africa and Europe. Cape Fear Rugby Club's Bob Bogen says: "our club puts the effort into putting on a professional class event and we strive to make sure that everything is done right, as much as a bunch of amateurs can." 54 teams are currently registered for the tournament. The local Cape Fear squad will field 2 junior teams along with 3 adult squads according to coach Matthew Williams. " it's a great atmosphere here, the great thing about the 7s tournament is the carnival atmosphere and that's what we want to create and that's what we want to create as a rugby club in Wilmington is to get a lot more people interested in the sport and 7s is a great platform for that." Now I've always wanted to play rugby, but I never have. There's a group of 6 that probably needs an extra player this weekend. After all, you have to have 7 guys on a team. This could be my big opportunity. This would fulfill a lifelong dream of mine... Playing in a world rugby 7's tournament. The players say: "John, we'd like to win this game. We'll stick with what we got. No thanks John, we already have someone in mind..." What do you mean someone else in mind, this kid you have in mind is only 2 years old. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider? "John, we have the perfect spot for you." Now I like the sound of that.....The perfect spot for me... Just me... Up here.. I probably won't get dirty either, but then again I'm not sure if the coach will notice me to put me in the game.
