It can be hard to find time in your busy schedules to meet someone special. In our area, hundreds of singles are using the internet to meet friends and possibly their significant other. Wilmington singles formed an alliance on Meetup.com, called the Cape Fear Singles. The group was created four years ago by six people who moved to Wilmington, not knowing a soul. Now the club has nearly four-hundred active members of all ages. Matt Werner is one of the original six. “People came from out-of-state and they didn't have a lot of friends here and so we've all become friends." They've met for more than one-thousand events from kayaking and bowling to trips to the Smokies. "It was never set up really as a dating site, it's an events-driven site, we're looking for new things to do, all the time, places to go, things to try,” Werner said. “It's gotten me out personally trying things that I never would've tried before. I went roller skating the other night, and it's been years since I've roller skated." Members like Joanne Bryant said they cherish the friendships they make in the group the most. "This really has been a God-sent to me." And occasionally, sparks fly. "I personally have met someone about two years ago in this group and we're dating very regularly,” Bryant said. “But I still love to come to the singles group because there's such a camaraderie and even though I'm in a relationship that's very wonderful and fulfilling, I still miss the people that I've had a chance to develop a friendship with." If you don't have plans this valentine's day and don't want to spend it alone, you can join the Cape Fear Singles. They will be eating dinner at the Texas Roadhouse Saturday, at six o'clock. If you plan on attending, be sure to RSVP to the event on meetup.com so the restaurant is prepared. Sherry Stewart recently joined and says members were very welcoming. “My first time was very intimidating, I didn't know anyone. But then, after that, I was very comfortable." Matt Werner added, “People are not going to come knocking on your door looking for you. If you don't go out and try things, you're going to lead a pretty boring life and that's proven to be true."

Whatever happened to....

..the old "Wilmington Singles Club" that used to meet at Beau Rivage?

My guess

They all went to online date sites.

Why would they do that?

They weren't ALL fat and ugly. (Ha! Just said that to get your goat. I've been following your repartee on the other board.)

Well...Common

I tried to get the last word in there but they didn't post it. Guess the admin is a Yank. I give up, you would think me being married to a German "Yankee" I would be better at this. :)
