Cat stuck in tree rescued

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- With continued cold temperatures, a Wilmington homeowner was surprised he couldn't get help with an unexpected problem today: a neighbor's cat refused to come down from the man's tree.

Barry Estler said the cat's been up the tree since yesterday. He said animal control told him just to wait.

"Animal control says that the cat will come down when it gets hungry enough. Well that's just a kitten," Estler said. "I've climbed as high as I could on that tree with a ladder, and the cat's tried to come down, turned around, and ran back up a little bit higher."

Despite what you've seen in movies, Estler says the fire department would not come and help get the cat out of the tree, but he was able to get the kitten, Muffins, down after calling a tree service.

Freezing Cat

So much for serving a concerned citizen. Our fire department would have gotten the cat out of the tree, maybe not right away, but certainly within a reasonable amount of time. Maybe the city is trying to recoup some of the tax payer money they spent on the gravely.

um..

"I've climbed as high as I could on that tree with a ladder, and the cat's tried to come down, turned around, and ran back up a little bit higher." Which backs up the fact that A) The cat WOULD have come down on its own and 2) the moron going up the ladder made the situation worse!

People never cease to amaze me. Ever see a cat skeleton in a tree?

I have never seen a cat

Hey, I'll betcha that a volunteer company would have been pleased to help a neighbor in need... our "professionals" are just too busy.

hey

I would rather our "professionals' stick to putting out fires or assisting in a REAL emergency then sending out the ladder truck and 5 firemen to get a cat out of a tree.
