Causey's son pleads guilty in federal court

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The son of a former New Hanover County Sheriff and current County Commission candidate pleaded guilty today in federal court. Brian Causey admitted to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. His father is Sid Causey, who was sheriff from 2002 until 2009 and is currently a Democratic Party nominee for County Commissioner.

Prosecutors say Brian Causey and three other men were involved in a money-making property scheme about a decade ago. The US District Court clerk's office in Greenville says the younger Causey is out of jail under $250,000 unsecured bond. His sentencing is set for November.

This is NOT any of your business

Brian Causey has never run for or been Sheriff, he never worked for that department, he has never run for county commissioner or for city council for that matter. He has never been in public office and is no more than a citizen of this county. Sid Causey, on the other hand has been in public office. You are using his son's misfortune to bring up past problems with Sid and that's not fair to him or to Brian. This is their personal issue between Brian and the law enforcement groups and his family. You make it sound like Sid was right there with him years ago making his decisions for him. This is not your business, mine or anyone else's. If it were Mr. John Q. Public involved here you probably wouldn't bother to mention it at all. Leave the family alone.
