Cape Fear Community College dedicated its site for its Surf City campus. The 25 acre sight along Highway 210 was dedicated to long-time county resident, Allston W. Burke. The community college spent months searching for a location on that side of Pender County. The search ended with Burke donating the land. He said students should apply themselves, and take advantage of all the campus will have to offer. "Work hard, and an education is the answer," said Burke. Cape Fear officials said they hope to attract students from the eastern part of Pender County. Surf City town council and Pender County commissioners have shown support by designating money for a 30,000 square foot classroom building. Burke said he wants the college to help the entire community grow.
