CFCC moves closer to Surf City branch

Cape Fear Community College is a step closer to expanding into Surf City. Surf City resident and former educator, Alston Burke donated 25 acres to the community college. Now the school has 120 days to evaluate the property, and make sure it's satisfactory to build on. Surf City mayor Zander Guy says the possibility of a college facility in the area is good news for the community. "It looks like this project will become a reality, it's good clean economic development and it will bring jobs. It will also offer educational opportunities for the young folks that graduate from high school," said Guy. If the land is approved by the college, construction is expected to start within the next 18 months. Mayor guy hopes the college will offer vocational and liberal arts courses.
