No Baseball On The Last Day Of The Season?Submitted by Cape Fear Sport... on 28 September 2008 - 5:11pm.READ MORE:
Sunday afternoon was one of those sports days where the remote control got so much use, I think it may have needed a sub. A plethora of NFL games, The Players Championship, The Race for the Chase and of course the last day of the MLB season. Oh, woops the only baseball on was the Cubs/Brewers on WGN. Hey ESPN… how you doing? Instead of airing games that are the most important games of the season, minus the playoffs, ESPN aired bowling and billiards… and on the Duece, WNBA Playoffs. Newsflash… it isn’t golf, you’re not supposed to get low ratings… the higher the better. You telling me the last game possibly ever at Shea, with the Mets fighting for a playoff spot, wouldn’t do better than billiards? ESPN scratched on the eight ball. Last Sunday they aired Yankee Stadium tribute stuff, all day long. But this Sunday, when there are four games that decide the season, they air bowling. Can you say Gutter Ball! I’ve been listening to Karl Ravech and Steve Philips all season long, and on the biggest afternoon of the year, nothing. Sure Baseball Tonight aired twice on May 28, but what about September 28? Isn’t that a little more what people are into… game 162, not 62. CC Sabathia hurled a complete game masterpiece as the Brewers beat the Cubs, but only those watching WGN would know. No peak-ins at the Mets game… no discussion of the American League Central race. It is so disappointing when the networks whiff. Sports have become more about winning the championship and less about the middle of the regular season, yet when it came to the biggest day of the MLB regular season, nothin’. Well they decided to air “MLB, An Epic Season” from 8:30-9:30 followed by an hour and a half of Baseball Tonight… at least they’ll catch you up on everything you missed, since they didn’t televise any games. The only one thanking ESPN is my remote. -- Jesse Jones, CAPE FEAR SPORTS REPORT N.C. Headlines |

Billiards instead of Baseball
You get baseball almost every day - with just this once to see the top men billiard players of the game. Give me a brake! Billiards has been bumped more than once for baseball and golf.
