WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Dukes scored early in each half and sophomore Diane Wszalek made six saves as James Madison shutout UNC Wilmington, 2-0, in Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer action Friday at the UNCW Soccer stadium.

The Dukes improved to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1 in league action while the Seahawks saw their season mark evened at 5-5-1 as they dipped to 1-2 in CAA play. Both teams return to the field Sunday with CAA matches as UNCW hosts Virginia Commonwealth at 2 p.m. while JMU is at Georgia State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Junior Corky Julien gave JMU a 1-0 lead just a little more than five minutes into the match as she sent a feed from sophomore Cate Tisinger into the upper right hand corner of the net. The goal was Julien’s fourth of the season.

Junior Teri Maykoski tallied the insurance marker in the 49th minute, tapping in a corner kick cross from sophomore Teresa Rynier on the far post. The assist was Rynier’s league-leading eighth helper of the campaign.

UNCW out-shot the Dukes, 15-12, and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks, but were unable to beat Wszalek, who recorded her third shutout of the season. Freshman keeper Chandler Follett made one save in goal for the Seahawks. -Courtesy UNCW
