WILMINGTON, N.C. – Junior Bobby Fogelsong notched the only goal of the evening as visiting Old Dominion edged by UNC Wilmington, 1-0, in Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer action Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. Old Dominion, the preseason favorite to defend its conference title, improved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Seahawks, who have split their last six outings, dipped to 4-6 and 1-1. Fogelsong netted the game-winner in the 72nd minute for the Monarchs. Senior T.J. Beaulieu worked through the UNCW defense to the end line where he cut the ball back and found Fogelsong open six yards out. The teams battled to a scoreless stalemate in the first half with the Seahawks holding a 5-3 advantage in shots. UNCW’s best chance of the half came in the 41st minute when junior Kirk Hudgins’ broke into the open field and received a short through ball into the penalty area. Hudgins settled the ball, but launched a shot wide left of the goal. ODU threatened early when freshman Nick Fogelsong’s grabbed a loose ball following a corner kick, but UNCW sophomore goalkeeper Brock Duckworth made the first of four save son the evening. Despite controlling the better part of play, UNCW finished tied with ODU at seven shots apiece. Freshman Michael Roura made three saves in recording his second shutout of the season for the Monarchs. The Seahawks conclude a two-game homestand on Oct. 8, when they host Georgia State for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
