UNCW Men's Golf Team Finishes 11th

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – UNC Wilmington senior Will Shambley moved up 15 spots in the standings to finish in a tie for 20th after posting a three-under-par 67 in the final round of the Jerry Pate National Collegiate at the Old Overton Club on Tuesday. UNCW (300-279-286=865) finished in 11th overall, seven strokes behind Memphis (289-281-288=858).

Host and 7th-ranked Alabama (278-271-281=830) captured the team title by six strokes over rival Auburn (287-268-281=836). Southern Methodist’s Kelly Kraft (76-68-69=204) rallied for medalist honors with a final round of 69.

Shambley, who tied for the second lowest round of the day with his three-under 67, moved up from a tie for 35th to record his 18th career top-20 finish. Junior Derek Wallace began the final round in a tie for 15th at one-under, but fashioned a five-over 75 on the final 18 to fall back into a tie for 28th.

The Seahawks return to action on Oct. 24-26, when they host the Landfall Tradition.
