The Hoggard girls' tennis team opened up their playoff run Tuesday and the undefeated Vikings had smooth sailing as they cruised past Lumberton 9-0.

In singles action, the two-time defending state champion Kaitlin Burns cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Katye Jobe. Maggie Dickens won at #2 love and love. Elizabeth Hodges, Haley Black, Chloe Opper and Haley Michael also won, as Hoggard swept the singles matches.

In doubles, it was more of the same as Hoggard swept the three matches. With the 9-0 win, the Vikings have now pitched seven shut outs on the season. They will play at Greenville Rose on Tuesday (10/21) in round two. Hoggard defeated Rose in the opening match of the season 6-3, which to date is the closest anyone has come to beating the now 13-0 Vikings.
