Checking In On Wilmington High School HoopsSubmitted by Cape Fear Sport... on 25 November 2008 - 9:03am.READ MORE:
Gridiron losses let us turn our attention to high school basketball just as the action is about to get warmed up. Tuesday, three of the four Wilmington high schools will be in action, but it will all take place on the road. Hoggard will play at Wakefield in their season opener. The Vikings are out to win their seventh consecutive season opener, but they will have to travel to Raleigh and beat the Wolverines, who won state titles in 2004 and 2006, to keep the streak alive. Hoggard, which finished second in the Mideastern Conference last season, will only dress eleven players as the team waits for the arrival of those who played football; they will start playing after Thanksgiving. The Hoggard girls get underway this weekend as they will be playing in the Goldsboro Tournament. The Vikings open their home campaign Tuesday when they host Conway. Girls tip set for 6:00, boys at 7:30. Ashley is also in action on Tuesday. The Eagles will play at South Brunswick with a girls tip scheduled for 6:00 and boys at 7:30. The Ashley boys are 0-2 after being swept in a home-and-home series. Following the trend, New Hanover is on the road as well Tuesday. Both the boys and girls will be in action against Greenville Rose. For full season previews, check out pages 19-21 in this month’s issue of the Cape Fear Sports Report.
