Ashley Beats Topsail While Hoggard Hammers Conway In Boys High School Basketball

Ashley improved to 3-2 Tuesday with a 68-54 win over Topsail. The Screamin' Eagles were led by Micah Allen's 19 points and Reid Clark's defensive play.

Topsail's Candon Rusin, who transferred from Wilmington, VT this summer and will play next year at Marist , was kept in check scored 12 points for the Pirates in their season opener.

First year coach Bryn McSwain complimented his team's defense adding, "Reid Clark was a defensive specialist tonight."
Ashley is back on the court Friday when they play at North Brunswick, while Topsail is back in action on Wednesday at Trask.

Hoggard jumped out to a 23-6 first quarter lead and then shot 65 percent from the floor in the second half to cruise to a 61-32 win over Conway in their home opener on Tuesday night. The Vikings (3-1) were led by Zack Allen’s 16 points and six assists, as well as Logan Cain’s 12 points and eight rebounds. Hoggard had 21 assists on their 24 field goals.

All 14 of the Viking players that dressed for the game played in both halves as Hoggard dominated every phase of the game. The Vikings forced 26 turnovers, had 10 steals, and outrebounded the Tigers 34-19.

Will Keistler had another solid game, contributing six points, seven assists, and five rebounds while Stilman White added nine points, four assists, and four steals.

Hoggard, now 28-4 in Hebbe Gym over the past four years, will be back in action at home on Friday night when they entertain Panther Creek at 7:30. The JV Boys will play at 6:00.
