Coach Sprecher Wins CAA Coach of the Year Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington head track and field coach Jim Sprecher was named Colonial Athletic Association Coach-of-the-Year the league office announced on Monday.

“This is a reflection of our coaching staff and the success of the athletes in the program,” said Sprecher. “This embodies the whole season and our successes throughout. The staff worked hard and our athletes competed well all year.” Eight members of the UNCW team qualified for the NCAA Regionals.

Sprecher guided the Seahawks to their second straight men’s title, third in four seasons and his sixth overall as the head coach. UNCW has won nine CAA men’s titles in total. The team also finished 6th overall at the IC4A Championships in Princeton, NJ. The IC4A is the oldest conference track meet in the country, with over 100 schools up and down the east coast belonging to the conference.

2008 marked the sixth time Sprecher has won the Coach-of-the-Year honor. This season, UNCW rallied from a 2 1/2 point deficit entering the final race of the CAA Championships and won the 4x400 claim the team title for the Seahawks.
