WILMINGTON, N.C. – Former UNC Wilmington assistant women’s basketball coach Kellie Kennedy, who was apart of the Seahawk squad for three seasons, has been named head women’s basketball coach at Loyola University New Orleans.

Kennedy joins Loyola as only the second coach in the 13-year history of the Wolfpack program after spending 10 seasons at Tulane (1996-2006), where she held many responsibilities as an assistant. Prior to her work with the Green Wave, Kennedy spent a year as an assistant at the University of Richmond and two years as head coach at NCAA Division III institution Hollins College in Roanoke, Va.

Kennedy got her start in coaching when she joined the Seahawks as an assistant under head coach Sherri Tynes from 1990-93. While at UNCW she worked in many areas, including pre and postseason workouts, scouting and recruiting. She earned her master’s degree in business administration from UNCW in 1993.

A 1990 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Kennedy was a four-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels. She earned Most Improved Player honors in 1988 and was the recipient of the 1990 UNC Scholar-Athlete and UNC Women's Basketball Senior Awards.

Loyola, an NAIA school in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, advanced to the final eight of the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship for the first time in program history in 2007-08 as the Wolfpack won a school-record 28 games.
