WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior Lorraine Quinn scored the lone goal in the 64th minute to lift Duke to a 1-0 victory over UNC Wilmington in a preseason collegiate women’s soccer exhibition Saturday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Quinn broke the scoreless draw at the 63:54 mark when she collected an endline pass from sophomore Carey Goodman and beat Seahawks freshman keeper Chandler Follett with a shot to the lower right-hand corner of the net. Quinn also had a chance to get on the board earlier in the contest, but her point-blank shot in the 16th minute found the right post.

Senior keeper Cassidy Powers helped the Blue Devils maintain their lead in the final minutes, making a diving save on a shot from UNCW freshman Meagan Simeone in the 80th minute. Powers made two saves in the contest as she split time with freshman Emily Nahas, who made one stop in the first half.

Duke enjoyed a 15-8 edge in shots during the contest and held an 11-3 edge in corners kicks taken.

UNCW returns to the pitch Aug. 23 when it opens the regular season with a 2 p.m. contest versus South Carolina at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. Duke will open the 2008 slate at home on Aug. 24 with a 5 p.m. kickoff against Coastal Carolina. - Courtesy UNCW Sports Information
