Charlotte motel offers rooms to NC homeless

CHARLOTTE -- The owners of a North Carolina motel are offering one-tenth of their rooms for the homeless, beginning Tuesday. The Charlotte Observer reported that Imtiaz Shareef and his brother are offering 16 of their rooms in the Days Inn extended-stay suites on Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte to the homeless. Churches or their members would pay for a night's stay for some. It's part of the new Room in the Inn program, which the brothers hope will bring attention to the growing homeless population near the motel. Shareef also hopes the program will motivate churches and their members to use his motel for other lodging needs. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

Let the poor be king for a day

Who cares if it is for a tax break. The people with the wise cracks have never been on the street in record cold temps without the bare necessities. Once the so called bums have showered and gotten warm. They are probably cleaner than the. Majority of citizens who leave a filthy mess for me to clean up at my housekeeping job. It is always the rich white kid with daddy's money that vomits in the carpet. Or the drug dealer that burns holes with his cigar in the comforter. God will bless these hotel owners. Tax deduction or not.

There would be no way that I

There would be no way that I would stay at that motel, knowing that they are housing bums in the same facility. This just promotes them staying homeless and not trying to get out and strive to better themselves. I bet that they are getting a HUGE tax deduction for doing this. Why else would they donate 10% of the rooms they have. Maybe the hotel is just to nasty for others to stay in and the bums are the only ones that will stay there.

will be great

Maybe their new slogan will be "Sleep where the bums pee." or "Don't mind that smell." Wonder how long until they pull the plug on this idea?

Guess they will offer in addition to non smoking rooms, non bum rooms.
