Citadel AD confirms UNCW's interest in coach

The UNCW Athletic Department said again today it has nothing to report about the search for a men's basketball coach. Citadel coach Ed Conroy's name surfaced yesterday morning in reports that he had been offered the Seahawk job. Neither he nor UNCW athletics director Kelly Mehrtens are saying anything.

Conroy's current boss says UNCW did ask for permission to talk with the coach, who received a new contract at the Citadel last year.

"We'll sit down with Ed as he and (his wife) Ginny and the kids decide if he gets an offer if that's something he wants to do," Citadel athletic director Larry Leckonby said. "And this might not be the only school that's interested in coach conroy. We knew that when we talked to him last year, because he is a good basketball coach.">

Both Conroy and Mehrtens are reportedly both heading to the Final Four this weekend in Indianapolis. No word on whether Mehrtens will use that trip to interview coaching candidates.

Ms. Merthens should get the Governor to accompany her. Good PR; allows the Governor another escape on the state tab; and allows her to use her force of personality to drive off a candidate.

This almost sounds like a replay of the big movie announcement in Wilmington which never took place and left egg foo yung all over a Governor's face.

How can such inept people draw such large salaries?

You wasn't once spurned by the governor in your past, was you? You sure do talk about her alot, even on things like this that has nothing to do with her.

Not Hardly; I just have a

Not Hardly; I just have a problem with an "Education" Governor who is visionless.

To use your vernacular, is you one of her supporters? If so, defend her ineptness. Give her some pointers on how to be an effective Governor. At the very least, point out where the Governor's Mansion and her Legislative offices are located.
