City council to get new members next year

READ MORE: City council to get new members next year
WILMINGTON -- There may be some new faces on City Council next year. Friday was the first day for council members to file for election. Wilmington City Council members Laura Padgett and Pat Delair are expected to run again but haven't filed yet. Mayor pro tem Jim Quinn and Councilmen Jason Thompson and Earl Sheridan are not eligible for re-election this year. First-time council candidate Ronald Sparks filed Friday afternoon. He's a former engineer for the City and says the sewer system is one of the main issues of his platform. Sparks said, "When I realized we couldn't flush our toilets I just got incensed, because that's a problem that could have been solved a long, long time ago." Council member Lethia Hankins has said she's unsure of whether she will run next year. She'll announce her decision on Wednesday. Candidates have until July 20 to file with the Board of Elections.
