Raleigh, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – Fifty-seven percent of North Carolina’s unaffiliated voters support Arizona’s new law regarding illegal immigration, according to a new National Research Inc. poll released today by the Civitas Institute.
According to the live caller poll of 400 unaffiliated likely voters, 57 percent said they support Arizona’s new illegal immigration law which requires that law enforcement officers check an individual’s immigration status when enforcing other laws. Thirty-three percent of voters said they oppose it, and 10 percent said they do not know or have no opinion.
“Voters understand that the federal government has failed to control illegal immigration and support a state stepping up and dealing with the matter in a lawful manner,” said Civitas Institute President Francis De Luca.
Native North Carolina residents are in greater support of the law by a 68 percent-19 percent margin. An average 56 percent of unaffiliated voters who have moved to North Carolina from other areas of the country are in support of the legislation.
“Regardless of where North Carolina voters are from originally, there is clear support for enforcing existing illegal immigration laws,” added De Luca. “Will North Carolina lawmakers listen?”
A July 2010 Civitas Institute poll found that 52 percent of the state’s unaffiliated voters believe Attorney General Roy Cooper should join with nine other state attorneys general to support Arizona’s enforcement of new immigration laws. Conversely, 29 percent of voters said they do not think Cooper should join this lawsuit, and 19 percent said they are not sure.
The Civitas Poll is the only monthly live-caller poll of critical issues facing North Carolina. For more information on Civitas polling see www.nccivitas.org/media/poll-results/.

This poll of 400 unaffiliated likely general election voters in North Carolina was conducted August 16-18 by National Research, Inc. of Holmdel, NJ. All respondents were part of a fully representative sample of registered voters in North Carolina. For purposes of this study, voters interviewed had to have voted in two of the past four general elections or were newly registered to vote since 2008. An additional screening question was asked to filter only those voters having some likelihood to vote in the upcoming 2010 election.
The confidence interval associated with a sample of this size is such that: 95 percent of the time, results from 400 interviews (registered unaffiliated voters) will be within +/- 4.9% of the “True Values.” True Values refer to the results obtained if it were possible to interview every person in North Carolina who had voted in two of the past four general elections or were newly registered to vote since 2008.

Illegal immigration
Illegals will most likely stop coming here when employers of this country stop hiring them. They come here for work & employers are quick to hire because they're cheap labor & legal immigrants/Americans don't want to do the work.
Illegals
I support Arizona 100%. Since when does the President of Mexico have the right to speak to our Congress and attack one of our own states? He should have been removed from the floor. Illegals are adding costs to our nation that we cannot afford, and they are essentially invaders of the country. Furthermore, the children of illegals from any country should not automatically become citizens of the U.S., in my opinion.
July 6, 2010 Immigration costs $113 billion1
Among the key findings of The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers:
The $113 billion in outlays for services and benefits to illegal aliens and their families represents an average cost to native-headed households of $1,117 a year. Because the burdens of illegal immigration are not evenly distributed, the costs are much higher in states with large illegal alien populations.
Education for the children of illegal aliens represents the single largest public expenditure at an annual cost of $52 billion. Nearly all of that cost is absorbed by state and local governments.
The federal government recoups about one-third of its share of the costs of illegal immigration in the form of taxes collected. States, which bear a much greater share of the costs, recoup a mere 5 percent of their expenditures from taxes paid by illegal aliens.
Granting amnesty to illegal aliens, as President Obama and others propose, would not significantly increase tax revenues generated by current illegal aliens. However, over time, amnesty would dramatically increase public costs as newly-legalized aliens become eligible for all means-tested government programs.
Arizona’s annual cost of illegal immigration is $2.5 billion.
“The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers provides a definitive response to the question of whether illegal aliens are a net benefit or a net drain on government coffers,” stated Dan Stein president of FAIR. “The report examines virtually every federal, state and local government program to determine the impact of illegal immigration on the bottom line. That bottom line $113 billion a year, and growing makes our nation’s failure to control illegal immigration one of the largest preventable burdens borne by American taxpayers.”
And the present administration won't enforce border laws! It promotes "sanctuary cities"! And now...it's suing Sheriff Arpaio and the state of Arizona? Whose interests are they serving? NOT mine...NOT yours!
This news article is skewed;
This news article is skewed; it tends to lean towards support of illegals and their plight. Glad to see intelligent writers post their profound comments.
Illegal and no two ways about it.
Way to go Arizona, it's about time that some state stood up for it's citizens, these people are illegal and our federal government doesn't do enough to stop them, lets's see how this works, if Monday morning 2000 North Koreas run across the border, we will go to war, but we will allow that many illegals to run across our border each and every day and all we do is feed them. Some say they do the jobs that no one else will do so lets do some math and find out why;
A. Illegal worker makes 7.00 per hour most likely paid in cash.
Expenses are:
rent divided by 15 equals ???
light bill divided by 15 equals ???
water bill divided by 15 equals ???
health insurance don't need, ER visits are free, right ???
medical bills none of that, went to ER right ???
car insurance, are you kidding ???
auto tags and taxes, have you been drinking to even think that ???
federal tax, they aren't even here right ???
state tax, aren't you on the page with me yet ???
social security, are you on drugs to believe they pay in ???
home owners insurance, didn't you read item #1 above ???
life insurance, can they die when they "aren't" here ???
B. Now legal worker makes 10.00 per hour
Expenses are:
rent $300 per month or $1.88 per hour based on 40 hours X 4 weeks
lights $120 per month or $.75 per hour
water $32 per month or $.05 per hour
health insurance $160 per month or $1.00 per hour
medical bills can't afford to get sick
car insurance $60 per month or $.10 per hour
car tags, taxes $16 per month or $.02 per hour
federal tax just say 18% or $1.80 per hour
state tax just say 8% or $.80 per hour
social security 7.5% or $.75 per hour
home owners insurance $20 month or $.02 per hour
life insurance $20 month or $.02 per hour
all said and done they have about $5.50 per hour left out of their $7.00 pay rate and I have about $2.81 left.
So here is the deal, let's all move to Mexico for a day and come back as an illegal and be twice as well off as we are now, or we could all move to Arizona and be Americans like we should be.
C. Next Problem, how to get them back OUT of our county, Easy and won't cost hardly nothing,
1. If you rent to illegals, 30 days in jail no questions ask, no trial no lawyers just 30 days each time
2. If a company works illegals, the owner 30 days in jail, don't care if you mow grass or make autos, 30 days, owners and CEOs that means have 12 workers and it's a year in jail PERIOD.
Results, no where to live, no where to work they go back like they came, on their own.
Illegals
Lets get one thing straight...Unauthorized immigrants are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS violating federal law. Illegal in Mexico...penalty is two years in prison and deported. We really can not afford to continue to support the ILLEGALS in school, hospitals, other medical facilities, etc. They work for cash only, pay no taxes and their buying power does not cover their costs to include incarceration. Those who are here legally and working are welcome. While this is primarily a latino issue there are others too.
SEND THEM ALL BACK
THEY SAY THAT THEY WERE HERE FIRST. I SAY BULL CRAP. MY PEOPLE WERE CHEROKEE. AND WE KEPT THEM AT BAY LONG BEFORE THE WHITE MAN EVEN GOT HERE. I SAY SEND THEM ALL BACK UNLESS THEY HAVE A GREEN CARD OR PASSPORT. RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.
I"LL TELL YOU THE PROBLEM. RICH MAN DONT WANT TO GET OFF THEIR HIP A LITTLE MONEY FOR US TO WORK. RATHER PAY THEM THE CHEAP WAGES. THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE DOING JOBS WE DONT WANT TO DO. BULL...ITS WHAT THEY WANT TO PAY IS WY WE DONT WANT THE JOBS. STOP BEING GREADY GET OFF YOUR HIPS AND WE WILL DO THE JOBS.
THE ONLY RESON THAY CAN OFFORD TO WORK FOR THE CHEAP WAGES IS BECAUSE THEY LIVE 5 TO 15 IN A HOME. SHAREING THE RENT.
AND WE DONT LIKE TO LIVE THAT WAY.
