Coast Guard needs help identifying false call suspects

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Coast Guard needs your help identifying two men overheard on their marine radios talking about making false distress calls. Click on the video link above to listen to the call. If you can identify a voice in the clip, call the Coast Guard at (252) 247-4571.

Making a false distress call is a felony punishable up to ten years in prison, a $5,000 civil fine, a $250,000 criminal fine and reimbursement to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard says says false calls take them away from responding to real calls, puts responders in danger and waste thousands of dollars of taxpayer money each year.

This is what I predict will happen:
One day that redneck idiot will really be sinking, but opps to bad, the Coast Guard will be somewhere else searching for a bogus mayday call. I hope his outboard falls off 40 miles out.

When did any government agency begin to worry about wasting taxpayer money?

Jerk, the Coast Guard ALWAYS has worried about abusing taxpayer money. I just wish every other form of government was as concerned!

I don't think so. Do you have any idea how many millions of dollars was spent on picking up the lead-acid batteries the Coasties dumped at the beacon markers they maintained? All along the Florida and southeast U.S. coast, thousands of those batteries were dumped at the base of the pilings of the respective markers by the US Coast Guard. Some pilings had 20-30 batteries at its base and a major Haz-Mat cleanup effort was initiated by the government to clean their mess up.

Now...how often is "ALWAYS" to you, or are we talking a hollywood "ALWAYS"?

And there is more!!! Now...who's the "Jerk"?

Hey....The CG is part of government. Why should it be any different?
