Coastal NC county gets new alcohol sales chief

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The troubled alcohol sales system in a southeastern North Carolina county is getting a new chief who promises to be transparent about the system's finances.

The StarNews of Wilmington reported that Dan Sykes officially takes over the Alcoholic Beverage Control system in New Hanover County on Thursday. The 63-year-old Sykes says he plans to set up a Web site that includes the system's financial information.

The county ABC system also plans to adopt a budget, which it didn't have under previous administrator Billy Williams.

Sykes was hired last week to take over for Williams, who retired in February after the StarNews reported that he and his son were earning more than $400,000 in salary, retirement benefits and bonuses.

Sykes managed the Orange County ABC for the last eight years.
