Colbert says he'll run for president in native South Carolina

NEW YORK (AP) - South Carolina native Stephen Colbert says he's running for president. Just in South Carolina. The Charleston native announced his candidacy for president last night on his Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report." Colbert says he will run only in South Carolina, in both the Republican primary January 19th and the Democratic primary, which the party hopes to move to January 26th. The 43-year-old Colbert has recently satirized the coyness of would-be presidential candidates. He wrote in the New York Times on Sunday for Maureen Dowd that he thinks voters are desperate for what he called a white, male, middle-aged, Jesus-trumpeting alternative.
