Colonial Christmas celebration

WILMINGTON -- The Burgwin-Wright Museum House hosted its sixth Colonial Christmas celebration this weekend. Visitors toured the house and got a taste of the holidays during the 1700s. Dancers in authentic costumes danced to 18th century music, the Bladen County militia showed off weapons from the revolutionary war, and hand spinner Karen Smith spun sheep's wool and demonstrated what it took to create clothing and blankets. Smith said, "I think modern people don't fully understand the amount of work that went into this during that time period because we're so used to today being able to go to whatever store and be able to buy whatever we need in terms of textiles."
