Teacher quilts for cancer

READ MORE:
A teacher at Myrtle Grove Middle School battled breast cancer this year and won. Now she's hoping to help others with the same disease, one stitch at a time. Suzan Perry teaches art at Myrtle Grove. Her creative mind helped her come up with a fun and colorful way to raise money for cancer research. "I had just started taking quilting lessons with Kathy Miller and I wanted to make a quilt," says Perry. "So I came into school and asked around for people who wanted make sqaures and I got a lot, just not enough to do anything with." One of Perry's friends began e-mailing everyone she knew, asking for their help. Pretty soon, she had quilt squares coming in from all over the world. "It was fun to go to the mailbox each day and get more and more quilts," says Kathy Miller, another teacher. "We've had lots of people interested in, it's just exciting to see the whole school get together to get it made." Now the quilt is stitched and ready to be raffled off. "It's an awesome idea that shows one person can make a difference. I'm real proud of Suzan." Raffle tickets are on sale at Myrtle Grove Middle School until April 20th when it will be raffled off at Relay for Life. Tickets are five dollars each, all proceeds go to Relay for Life.
