The cyclist was sharing the road with cars during daylight hours (it's not dark yet at 6:30 pm) and the trooper said it appeared he was using the bike lane (though it is permissible, and at times necessary, to be on the traffic side of the white line for short periods.) The driver chose to get behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol or drugs, and it resulted in a death. He needs to be put away for a long time.
Unfortunately he probably won't, because somehow once you involve a cyclist, we seem to want to absolve drivers, however stupid or drunk, of all responsibility.
Hold the right person accountable!
