Wrightsville Beach detectives have arrested three suspects in connection with what they say is a private contracting scam. Andrew Ward, Marcus Watkins, and Milton Register have all been charged with obtaining money and property by false pretense. The three men allegedly approached an elderly home owner, claiming they had done work on his house. The homeowner then wrote them multiple checks, adding up to twenty thousand dollars. Detectives said the man might not have been their only victim. "If you haven't authorized them to do work on your house, than you shouldn't have to pay them. The other thing is to call law enforcement and have us come out there and identify the people, and put a stop to them." said Shaun Appler, a Wrightsville Beach police officer. There is a warrant out for a fourth suspect, Amy Barnes, who is also being charged with obtaining money/property by false pretense. If you know anything more about this case or possible victims, call the Wrightsville Beach Police Department at 910-256-7945.
