"The last few days before we found out about the pet food recall all she did was sleep which was not normal for her."
Christy Cumber fed her cat Kitty one of the pet food brands recalled by Menu Foods. She says over several days, Kitty grew lethargic and weak.
Cumber is like many other pet owners who rushed into animal clinics concerned that they're pet may have been affected by the tainted food. Kitty’s veterinarian Christian Bolz examined kitty.
"It is possible that the signs and symptoms that kitty presented with that it is related to the pet food."
That's when Bolz told Christy, kitty's survival was slim. "We were devastated, we had to make the decision to euphonize her and that was the hardest decision we had to make."
For Christy, Kitty wasn't just a cat, so now she plans to sue Menu Foods for Kitty's unexpected medical bills.
"We don't have children and that was our child, it's unconditional love, it's something to come home to that's always going to love you irregardless."
