There is no excuse to stay indoors this weekend. From seafood and blues, to sand volleyball, to concerts, there is definitely plenty going on to keep you busy. The fun kicks off Friday night at Thalian Hall. It is the 150th Anniversary Gala Concert starring Linda Lavin and friends. The $75 ticket includes hors d'oeuvres, open bar and an after show reception in the lobby. The concert begins at 8:30p.m. Saturday, get your walking shoes ready. It is the National Alliance on Mental Illness' 6th Annual Walk for Awareness. The group is trying to raise more than $10,000 to fund educational programs, crisis intervention training and other events. The walk begins at 10:00 a.m. at Hugh MacRae Park. The cost for the walk is $15. Saturday, it's the 5th Annual "A Day to Remember" Alzheimer’s volleyball tournament and Family Festival at Captain Bills. The team entry fee is $100 in advance, $125 the day of the event. It starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Newschannel 3's Jenna Caizzo is MC’ing. Forget about American Idol, Brunswick Idol contestants will be belting out the tunes Saturday night. Both teens and adults will compete. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at Odell Williamson Auditorium. Newschannel 3's Meghan Torjussen is MC’ing. Saturday, a fun event for man and man's best friend. It is Bark in the Park, the 2008 Skyhoundz Hyperflite Canine Disc Championships at Wrightsville Beach Park. Admission is free and begins at 11:00 a.m. Jazz up your weekend on Pleasure Island at the 15th Seafood, Blues and Jazz Festival. It is a weekend of non-stop musical talent, featuring live jazz and blues performances on two stages. And when it comes to the seafood, there is more to choose from this year. Buy your tickets in advance; $30 gets you in both Saturday and Sunday. It is all happening at the Fort Fisher Military Recreation Area. If you attend the festival, make sure you say hello to Newschannel 3's Steve Rondinaro and Meghan Packer. Keeping with the music theme, the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra performs in UNCW's Kenan Auditorium Saturday night. Tickets are $20 for adults, $4 for students and children. You can get tickets at the Kenan box office. Do you have what it takes to hang with the big dogs? The Wilmington Sea Dawgs, that is. Open try-outs for the professional basketball team will take place on Sunday. Tryouts are at Topsail High School and begin at noon and last until 6:00 p.m. You have to be 18 years old with a high school degree or equivalent. The registration fee is $75.
