There is no such thing as a "well placed shot" with a shotgun using buckshot at 50-60 yards. Anything more than 40 yards is useless and that is too far. A rifle is the way to go. That's why so many Law Enforcement agencies are going to .223 rifles for close-in and at longer ranges. Precision shots are the safest way to go. Shotguns are for only close-in use.
