RALEIGH (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards raised more than $14 million in the first quarter of the year. The amount would have set a record except rival Hillary Rodham Clinton raised almost twice as much.
Edwards also raised $3.3 million over the Internet.
Campaign official Jonathan Prince says the Edwards campaign is significantly over its budget for the year.
Clinton collected $26 million over the first three months of 2007, and also transferred $10 million from her Senate account.
The chief fundraiser for Edwards says the campaign will need about $35 million to compete in early 2007 primaries.
