Some local law enforcement officers are gearing up for the Beach to Battleship triathlon in memory of their fallen comrades. Two members from the Wilmington Police Department and one from Wrightsville Beach Police Department will be biking, swimming and running in the triathlon on November 1st. Captain Jeff Allsbrook, Lieutenant George Perkins and Officer Jesse McCubbins are collecting donations for a memorial wall planned for the front of the Wilmington Police Department headquarters. “What we decided to do when we formed the team is to run in honor of the seven Wilmington officers who've died in the line of duty. We're trying to get people to sponsor us on a per mile basis. We think it’s for a great cause,” said Captain Allsbrook. Lt. Perkins said, “That's the whole purpose of that memorial wall, so that these officers who died in the line of duty will not be forgotten and their families will know that they're not forgotten and that's why we're doing what we're doing.” To find out how to make a donation, contact the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3600.
