NEWARK, Dela. - Due to constant rain all day, Saturday's soccer match between UNC Wilmington and Delaware has been postponed to Sunday at 10 a.m.
Swimming and Diving
ATLANTA, Ga. – UNC Wilmington won a total of 19 events as the Seahawks swept Emory in collegiate men’s and women’s swimming and diving action Saturday at the Woodruff Natatorium.
With the sweep the both UNCW squads evened their records at 1-1 on the young season. It was the season opener for Emory.
Leading the Seahawks on the men’s side was freshman Aidan Akari, who won both the 100 and 200 yard Backstrokes with time of 52.19 and 1:54.35, respectively.
On the women’s side it was another freshman that shined for the Seahawks as Alden Dyer captured the 200 Butterly (2:10.05) and 400 IM (4:34.98).
Senior Danielle Mortensen won both distance freestyles, winning the 1000 with a time of 10:20.12 and the 500 at 5:02.27.
Sprinter Rob Anderson won the 100 Breaststroke (58.60) and tied freshman Alex Aguilar for the win in the 50 Free at 21.81 seconds.
Four different Seahawks won diving events. Freshmen Kristin Harris and Siobhan Munroe won the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, respectively. Harris totaled 235.27 points while Munroe checked in with 191.25. Sophomore Kobi Salinas won the 3-meter board (344.75), but it was junior Matt Arb who collected top honors in the 1-meter with 267.90 points.
UNCW won all four relay events. The men clocked in at 1:36.05 in the 200 Medley and 1:25.39 in the 200 Free relay. The UNCW women, meanwhile, posted winning times of 1:48.80 in the 200 Medley and 1:37.19 in the 200 Free relay.
The Seahawks open conference action on Oct. 31, when they visit George Mason for a Colonial Athletic Association pod meet with Delaware and Towson.
Volleyball Topped By Towson
TOWSON, Md. - Senior Maddie Haseltine recorded a game-high 10 kills to lead Towson to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory over UNC Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Saturday at the Towson Center
The Tigers improved to 17-8 overall and 6-3 in CAA play while the Seahawks dropped to 6-17 on the season and remained winless in league play at 0-9.
Haseltine was the only Tigers player to reach double figures in kills as senior Valerie Chromy chipped in eight and sophomore Shelynne Hoyt added seven. Junior Missy Rohrbaugh and senior Ally Perko posted nine digs apiece while Hoyt recorded four block assists. Sophomore Katee Luecke dished out a game-high 29 assists.
Sophomore Rachael Caricato recorded a team-high seven kills while senior Megan Nash and junior Anna Price chipped in six kills each for UNCW. Junior Ashlyn Morris posted a match-high 13 digs and sophomore Keri Hogan added eight as UNCW held a 46-41 advantage in that category. Nash and Caricato posted six and five block assists, respectively, as the Seahawks recorded seven total blocks in the match. Senior Jacqueline Crane doled out 27 assists.
Haseltine posted four kills in the opening game and the Tigers held the Seahawks to a (.026) hitting percentage as Towson claimed a 25-18 victory in game one.
Towson scored the first five points of game two to on its way to building a 13-5 lead midway through the frame. The Seahawks fought back, scoring 13 of the next 22 points to pull within four, 22-18. Back-to-back errors by the Seahawks gave the Tigers a 24-18 lead before a kill by Haseltine two plays later gave Towson a 25-20 victory.
Haseltine once again paced the Tigers attack in game three with four kills on 10 attempts with just one error for a .333 hitting percentage as Towson posted a .250 attack clip in a 25-20 victory.
UNCW returns to action Nov. 1 with a 2 p.m. contest at Georgia State. Towson is back on the court Oct. 31 in a 7 p.m. match at William & Mary.
