Bladen County voting off smoothly

Like many other counties, Bladen County has had a steady turnout. There were short lines at 6:30 in the morning, but after that rush there were no lines at all. That is because 10,500 people voted early, which is about 48% of the total amount of registered voters there. That is more voter turnout than Bladen County had altogether in 2004. Many voters Tuesday were first timers. “I just thought it was something you do, but now I see the importance of it and that was my reason for coming out today. I mean it's the war situation, gas prices,” said Corey Purdie, a first time voter. As far as problems at the polls, one vote counting machine came unplugged and had to be re-started. The paper ballots had to be re-fed and then everything was back on track. Another precinct had no power at 6 a.m. and had to relocate down the hall, but everything was ready to go before the polls opened.
