In Wilmington Wednesday night, the celebration of Barack Obama's election continued. Hundreds gathered at Union Missionary Baptist Church to sing and pray for the president-elect. The energy was high on stage, and in the pews, as members of at least five churches came together to support Barack Obama through prayer and worship. Mychal Robinson attended Wednesday night’s event and said, "This is a real inspiration to me, it let’s me know black people can achieve; we can do anything." "There has never been an African American president, and that's just a joyous occasion for us,” added Betty Vascom. She also said they are also celebrating the country's overall political change. Not everyone at the celebration agreed with Obama, but they are relying on their faith to support him. Joseph Canty, Jr. also attended the celebration and said, "I had voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin, but the bible plainly tells us that we're to uplift those who are in leadership and authority in prayer." One Tree Hill actress, Dawnn Lewis, spoke to the crowd. Her message was to not take the situation lightly, as many people have sacrificed and worked hard to see this day. She reminded young people of their potential. It was an emotional night for many who never thought they'd see an African American as the country's leader. "I love him, I love him. I know he's going to make a good president," said Robinson. As for which candidate won North Carolina last night? Votes are still being counted, and with tens of thousands of provisional ballots yet to be counted. It is still too close to call.
