More details on Bethea shooting

There are more details on the shooting of a Columbus County football player. 18-year-old Anthony Bethea was shot at a house party in Fair Bluff early Saturday morning. Police in Fair Bluff call the house where Bethea was shot an "illegal outlet". Police Chief Marty Lewis said the popular hangout on Brooks Street is known for parties and large gatherings. He also said the homeowner has been cited in the past for selling alcohol without proper permits. Bethea was at a party at the house when he was shot around 4:00 a.m. Saturday. His mother and two sisters were also there. Police believe 28-year-old Shondell Smith shot Bethea. Smith was shot and killed by the responding police officer a short time later. Chief Lewis said Smith was reportedly friends with one of Bethea's sisters. There was another person in the car with Smith after he was shot and trying to get away, Andre Ballard, who Chief Lewis also said is a friend of Anthony Bethea's sister. There are unconfirmed reports that doctors reduced Bethea's medication for him to wake up Monday, and amputation surgery on his leg has been cancelled.
