WILMINGTON -- A contract between the City of Wilmington and the state is expected to speed up the sewer repair process.
Tuesday night the City Council authorized the City to enter into a special order of consent contract with the state department of environmental and natural resources.
The contract will hold the City accountable for making the necessary improvements to the sewer system or face steep fines.
Some council members welcomed the progress but said it's not enough.
The recommended repairs are expected to be complete by April of next year if no other problems develop.
