Gas prices have drivers feeling less pain

READ MORE: Gas prices have drivers feeling less pain
Drivers are feeling a little less pain at the pump than they did earlier this year. AAA said gas prices are at a three-and-a-half-year low. For Mable Justice, swiping her card to fill up her tank is a little more bearable these days. She used to spend more than $40 to fill up her Toyota Prius. "It's wonderful. I can fill up for twenty-some dollars now, so it sounds real good for us financially," she said. The sound of the pump shutting off is now music to her ears, especially before the holidays. "It helps all around my budget, so I can buy a few more things," Mable said. Justice isn't the only delighted driver, they are practically everywhere you look. "It's been good for me. I've been able to save a little bit more money. It's like fifty percent less now," said Gene Amedy. Matt Joen added, "I don't have to ride my bike around anymore. More freedom to go around, back and forth to the beach, wherever. I don't feel as guilty." The national average for a gallon of regular is $2.09, while North Carolina’s average is $2.08. Here in Wilmington, we are averaging $2.18 a gallon, but compare that to this time last year, when it was $3.09, and it's not looking so bad. News Channel 3 did find several Wilmington gas stations charging $2.07. "It is better than what it was, but it still is not easy," said Cassidy Holzinger. It may get easier as prices are expected to continue to drop, along with the decreasing cost of crude oil. Tuesday morning, the average price of gas in Wilmington has dropped to $2.13 a gallon for regular unleaded. Among the gas stations we found with the lowest prices, are the Go-Gas on Market Street as well as Sam's Club and Crown, both on College Road.
