This week's Kitchen Cops report has an update on a Carolina Beach restaurant that was so bad during an inspector's visit last month the health department suspended it's permit.
With a new executive chef and a whole lot of work, the health department let Tangerine Caribbean Grill on North Lake Park Boulevard reopen several days later. Monday the inspector returned for a follow-up. This time around, the inspector marked off because there were no sanitizer bottles or buckets in the kitchen. Several chemical bottles were found unlabeled. And some metal containers were stacked wet. The executive chef said he still wants to get the score higher, but the new 95.5 is quite the improvement over the old score of 67.
Health inspectors rated three New Hanover County eateries high performers in this week's Kitchen Cops Report. This week's highest score belongs to Shell Island Catering in Wrightsville Beach. A half-point off before the can wash area needs cleaning. Add back two points for workers passing a food safety course and a score of 101.5.
To Lovey's Natural Foods on Military Cutoff. Just a half-point off for some maintenance issues and a score of 99.5.
And to the Dubliner Irish Pub on Carolina Beach Road. A half-point deduction because the dumpster is not on an impervious pad. A score of 99.5.
