BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- A shooting in Brunswick County early Sunday morning left one person dead. It happened during a birthday party in Supply. Investigators say it happened at a private club on Makatoka Road. Sheriff Ron Hewett says around 3:30 Sunday morning during a party several people got into a fight. Someone fired shots. Bullets hit and killed 32-year-old Anthony Alex Smith of Bolivia. Investigators believe Smith may have been trying to help a friend involved in the fight. Investigators are still interviewing witnesses. Sheriff Hewett said, "We feel that there are individuals out there who know what happened, and we need to know that in order to find justice for Anthony Smith and his family." An autopsy for Smith will take place at Onslow Memorial Hospital. There is a reward offered for any information leading to an arrest and conviction.
