FAA: Western N.C. plane crash kills two

ANDREWS, N.C. (AP) -- Officials say two people are dead after an early morning plane crash in western North Carolina.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, says preliminary reports indicate a single-engine plane carrying three people hit power lines just after midnight while approaching Andrews-Murphy Airport in Cherokee County.

The plane had been traveling from Orlando Executive Airport in Florida.

Bergen says the plane is registered to Damien O'Neill of Franklin (North Carolina). Authorities have not identified the two people killed in the crash.

The third passenger was being treated at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Hospital spokeswoman Pat Charles says she can't provide further details.
