WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH--Some walked and some ran to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Hundreds gathered at Wrightsville Beach Park to give back to the community and get some exercise before Thanksgiving dinner. The 4th annual Turkey Trot started early Thanksgiving morning, a 2.4 mile run or a mile fun walk around Wrightsville Beach loop. "I have a friend that has a habitat house," Allison Sineath said. "I just think it's a wonderful organization and a wonderful opportunity." 500 hundred people signed up for the event, with all the money raised going towards building a habitat home for the less fortunate. Michele Paluchak said this is the time of year to give back. "You feel like you're helping people--that need a helping hand sometimes and it just makes you feel good." Matt Thuman of Campbell Timberland Management, cut Habitat for Humanity a $10,000 check. "It's just a good event, and we are glad to be apart of it and help put someone in a house somewhere." Micael Nelson enjoyed the exercise while helping a good cause. "I felt really was a great experience and fun to do." Habitat for Humanity expects to raise over $15,000 from Thursday's event.
